
The Sindh High Court (SHC) Sukkur has ordered the urgent construction of tent cities for flood victims across the province.
The SHC Sukkur bench, headed by Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput, expressed displeasure over the district administration's handling of relief and rescue efforts while hearing a matter related to the devastation caused by the recent rains and floods.
The SHC bench asked the commissioner about the number of people rescued and the facilities provided to them. The Sindh government has been ordered by a court to quickly set up 10 towns across the province for flood victims.
The SHC Sukkur bench directed the rapid establishment of 10 towns as well as the guarantee of food and medical services.
The court also ordered the creation of citizen committees to oversee relief under civilian judges.
The court further directed the Sindh government to provide guidelines for patching canal breaks and prepare a report on the storm and flood water drainage systems in the province.
It is to be mentioned that residents of Katcha area are fleeing to safer places as the Indus River is raging in major floods at Sukkur, Guddu and Taunsa barrages with more than five cubic seconds of water.
