Power outage: Court orders CEO's arrest and production within an hour
Karachi: The Sindh High Court has issued a bailable arrest warrant for the CEO of Elekrak in the matter of power cut and ordered to comply with the warrant within an hour.
There were reports that several areas in southern Pakistan, including the financial capital of Karachi, experienced power outages on Thursday, with the power ministry attributing the large blackout to a "random fault" in the transmission system.
“Several power plants in the south are shutting down in phases due to an accidental fault in the country's southern transmission system. As a result, electricity supply to the south of the country has been interrupted,” the ministry said in a tweet following reports of power outages.
She assured that she is "diligently" investigating the cause of the fault and electricity transmission will be restored as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, K-Electric spokesperson Imran Rana said on Twitter that the utility had received reports of "multiple outages" from different parts of Karachi.
"We are investigating the issue and will continue to post this space," he said.
In an update posted around 11:45 a.m., he confirmed that the power outage was caused by a fault in the southern transmission system, as explained by the Department of Energy.
He added that work has started to restore the supply and complete restoration will take about five hours.
