Multinational company Glasgow Smith Clean (GSK) has announced to stop production of Panadol and Panadol Extra tablets and Panadol syrup for children in Pakistan. According to media reports, GSK informed the Stock Exchange and the Prime Minister's Secretariat in writing about the current situation along with stopping the production of medicines. The company has demanded in the letters that the prices of Panadol be increased, the new prices of the medicine should be fixed due to the increase in the cost of raw materials used in the manufacture of Panadol. GSK Pakistan General Manager Farhan Haroon has written a letter to Prime Minister's Principal Secretary Tuqeer Shah saying that Panadol Tablets, Panadol Extra and Syrup for Children are being discontinued.

The letter said that it was no longer possible to manufacture Panadol products at the current price, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan recommended an increase in the prices of Panadol, according to media reports, the federal cabinet rejected the increase. The General Manager of GSK Pakistan wrote in the letter that they were making Panadol at a loss for the past several months, which is no longer possible.
